I bought a 1989 CP23 last summer, and really enjoying this little yacht so far. I think I've figured out most of her mysteries and quirks, but two are still puzzling me... maybe someone can shed light. First, what do you think these padeyes are for, adjacent to the jib tracks on either side? They're pretty substantial. Not sure if they're OEM or added on. Second, what is the purpose of this twisty hook thing welded on to the forestay fitting? I keep thinking, well, I suppose you could just hook the jib tack grommet onto that, but really that doesn't seem right. I'm sure someone out there knows! Thanks also to everyone for all the great past posts that have helped me figure out the idiosyncrasies of this boat. Great resource!

The hook on the bowsprit is for attaching the jib tack. There is one like that on our C-27. I use it sometimes, but have to keep an eye on it when hoisting the jib until the luff has tension on it. I use it because the jib luff is matched up to its position....I have not gotten around to shortening the pendant on the bottom of the jib or placing a snap tackle by the forestay.
I guess that the pad eye might be for a bimini strap, a preventer to keep the boom from jibing (if there are two of them), or just a place to hook the mainsheet out of the way when not sailing.

My guess on the pad eye is that it's for a snatch block, if so most likely for a spinnaker.
