Title: Well, I'm essentially done....
Post by: brackish on September 09, 2017, 12:17:57 PM
....with the haulout from hades.

The primary reason for the haulout is to do the bottom job.  Done with three coats of Blue Water Marine copper shield 45 SCX.  Hopefully that will last another three years with occasional in water cleanings.  Also done is complete replacement of all the striping, cleaning and waxing the hull, cleaning and woody waxing the top sides, stripping and refinishing all the exterior teak, sanding, priming and painting the aluminum rudder components, replacing all the mast lighting with LED and about a hundred other small projects.  The only thing I did not get to was to tear out the Hidem Binding (hate that stuff) and trim it out right with teak molding.  However, I was planning to launch tomorrow but now will probably wait till Thursday to see what impact Whirly Girl Irma has on my lake.  Rather have her here than bumping around the marina, so maybe the trim out job will get done.  She is in like new condition:

Nice job! Your boat is a beauty! I have the same trailer on my 23 except I built a platform for the keel as it was a regular trailer. I need dome nice keel rollers as you have. Have fun sailing!

That is the ugliest 23 I've ever seen!!! Not!! Very nice attention to detail!! Is that a wood rudder blade? Did you build it?

Neither insults nor compliments will get me to pay my initiation extortion, err fee!

The rudder is fiberglass over something and  is actually current Compac stock for 23's.  Not sure when they went to it but once I modified the lift handle locking tab so that I didn't get any more nuisance kick ups, it has been great.

She's immaculate - nice work.
What was your solution for preventing the unintended rudder rising?

Thanks.  My kick ups were usually from side slip between the locking tabs on the handle and the delrin piece on the rudder post.  I designed a new piece for that with a slot in it to prevent lateral movement.  There is a thread on the site about it but the pics were old Photobucket and are no longer there.  Traveling now, will update with the pics replaced when I get home and link on this thread.

Beautiful job.  What did you use to make the ports bright?  Did you take them off to clean them?  Do you need to clean the brass every year?

I am converting a powerboat trailer and there are 4 rollers that would support the keel.  Do you think this is enough, or should I use a full length keel board?

What are the dimensions of square upright tubes on the bunks?

Beautiful!

Let me know if you get bored and need a few more projects...

I need to work on: companionway boards, all weathered teak trim, cushions, few spider cracks in gel coat, rudder grudgeon, bow pulpit, stantions $ lifelines, repair sail cover, replace electrical.

That's for starters...won't get to bottom until April...

I didn't do anything to the ports.  The beauty of polished stainless steel.  When I first got the boat I wished they were the old bronze, but really prefer them now, they are completely maintenance free.

You need to go to one of the trailer sites and get the load rating on the rollers that are on your trailer and match them against your displacement weight.  Mine has 8 rollers.  Rollers are better if you are planning to paint the bottom on the trailer.

The square tubes are 1.5" and are fairly thick gage I think 3/16" or maybe 1/4"
