Title: First sail San Diego
Post by: BrickBridge on September 09, 2017, 11:35:32 AM
Hi Everyone,

After purchasing my '83 16-1 in St. Simmons, GA and pulling it cross country on a military move to San Diego, I finally got out on the water. The trip cross country was exciting. I attached a picture of Bella B at 13000 feet above Durango.

San Diego bay is ideal for little boats like the 16. I've seen a bunch of Potters but so far I'm the only small ComPac I've noticed. Bella B is not the fastest but she sure is fun. Without this forum I never would have gotten her back in shape to sail. If anyone is ever in SoCal drop me a message and we'll take her out.

Ameysails, size is important accordingto my wife, she needed 2 more feet so we can have an indoor porti-potty.  For the record, it was the cabin girth rather than the length.

Congrats brick on wetting your bottom in San Diego Bay.  I have seen o few Com-packs listed for sale there, so key your eyes open, they are there.

Nice --- since you're in CA, you MUST.....honestly MUST visit Huntington Lake in the Sierras. I had my first visit there last week and the reputation for being an awesome lake is  right on. The lake is sail-able during summer, they begin to lower the lake in Sept (October 1 this year due to the rain last season). Great launch ramp. It's at 7500 feet and the road up to the lake is good (but there is alot of steering involved). It's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours out of Fresno. A day's drive for you, but worth it and you'll not regret spending a weekend or a week there! If I get down to you area again, I'll tug my Picnic Cat and maybe you can show me around!

Congrats on living and sailing in San Diego...doesn't get much better. Missed you by a couple of weeks. I was just out there visiting friends with the kids and sailed on San Diego Bay. I saw a 23 on the docks on Shelter Island.

I sailed from San Diego Bay to Mission Bay and back last year and had a great time. I was fortunate to catch the migration season and sail along with several Gray Whales.
