Title: Any thoughts on the photobucket replacement?
Post by: brackish on August 02, 2017, 04:22:36 PM
I just posted a couple of photos in the test section directly from my Google Photos account.  Can be done but a little cumbersome. But in reality, no more so than the old photobucket free account.  At least I didn't have to wade through pages of popups to get the job done.  Interested in what others think about life after photobucket.

Also, some posts recently have photos that are smaller clips with a paperclip image next to them.  They become larger when clicked on.  What is being used to do that?

I am now using Imgur (http://imgur.com).

while those photos are showing for you, they don't show for others.  I left a note on your test post, referencing these instructions:
http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=9089 (http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=9089)

For those which show up with the paperclip, it's because the image file is attached to the post.  If while writing a post, click the +Additional Options (below the text box) and there is an option to attach a file.  There are size limits much smaller than most cameras record out of the box, but more than adequate for viewing on most computers, so it may take some file manipulation to make that work.

You are almost there....

... also the technical side of file movement, resizing, hosting, permissions, etc is confusing.  Ironically I find Mattman's mid-boom sheet advice (http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=10344.0) confusing, constantly thinking, "what's the vang?  where is the leach?" and a gazillion other things before understanding the sage advice he provides.

Well looks like you figured it out for me, it works.  Actually not so much trouble since most of my pics are taken with my android phone and go immediately to my google photos page without having to upload to a third party sight.

LOL, ironically I understood exactly what Mattman was saying but could struggle all day with this picture thing and all other things computer.  I was out sailing with a newbie who had just purchased an old Columbia 7.6 and I tacked that thing 4 times wondering why it was performing so badly, then happened to look up at the non adjustable topping lift the guy had rigged up and it was too tight to let the leech tension or the vang work properly.  Gave him a design for a simple double clip adjustable and all was well.
