Title: CP 16 Keel
Post by: carry-on on June 11, 2017, 08:24:03 PM
Anyone have the dimensions of the keel, particularly the height from base to hull? I think it is 10 inches, but would like to confirm.

The draft is 18" from the water line. Looking for the dimension of the keel below the hull.

The hull is sort of rounded, do you want the measurement from the bottom part of the hull at the base of the keel as close as I can get it to the bottom of keel?

OR

from a place on the hull I feel is flat bottom (more in the middle of the hull from waterline to keel area) to bottom of keel?

I have my boat on the trailer and can get the measurement tonight before I leave work if I remeber

Looking for the dimension from the point where the hull meets the keel to the bottom of the keel, the vertical dimension of the keel.
Thanks.

Hey Carry On, will not be back around our 16 till next week but will be glad to check if you do not have the info by then. Curious as to why that dimension? It might help folks who are trying to give a dimension if we knew what you were hoping to gain by knowing that distance. If you have a trailer, the vertical distance from the bunk boards to the keel rollers will be about the dimension you seek. Lemeno

Thanks, YAMAHA for the measurement. That will help.

Mas, perhaps you have followed the discussion of keel guides for the 16 and similar keel boats. I like the idea of locating the PVC pipes on the top of the carpeted keel guides, but not sure if there is enough space to make the change. My pipe guides are currently on the side of the 2x6 keel guides. I agree with the idea that having the pipe guides high is good.
However, don't want the hull riding or scraping on the PVC when launching or recovering and when on the trailer,  the keel should be firmly on the rollers.
So, this measurement will let me do some figuring before I go to the boat.
