I have to replace the rotten bunks on the trailer and see the previous owner lifted the rear bunks for some reason. Anyone ever see or do this modification. They also put a board over the rollers instead of replacing them. Aside from being a bit more difficult to retrieve, are there any other reasons I should replace the rollers? Ryan.
If you plan to paint your bottom on the trailer it is far easier to get access with rollers rather than a solid board under the keel. Only real advantage I can think of.
I would guess the aft bunk supports were raised when the center board was added to take up the slack created. My CP 16 had a board and no rollers. It worked fine. I would think rollers would be helpful if you use a shallow ramp where the winch has to pull the boat on to the trailer or you have to use the tilt feature. I have never tilted my trailer. I do have a 3 ft tongue extension that goes in my reciever. That has been a big help a few times at low tide.
