Post by: droads on May 04, 2017, 10:11:39 AM
Any ideas on the size for a Compac 23 bimini top. I have the early version My sail number is 33. I saw one on Amazon Has anyone any ideas or suggestions on the size to get, and where to buy from

Mine came with the boat, I don't know what "size" it is considered, but it is about 76" wide at the base and about 55" high when folded up, probably a little less when spread.  It does work, the boom just barely clears it when sailing.  If you plan to use it while sailing, important to get a reference measurement bottom of the boom to top of the mount points to make sure it will work.  Or buy one slightly larger and cut the tubes to fit.

I bought one the same size that Capt Kirk mentions in an old post on this site.

It worked perfectly.

Now, others have found that it was too tall. I think that part depends on the cut of your sail.

Good luck!

We use ours at all times in the sun. My wife is a 2rd generation Pacific Northwest American born Dane (grandfather immigrated to Idaho) and very  fair skinned and sunburns easily down here...

Like Brackish mentioned, I bought as close as I could, and had to cut for height to get under the boom. I have a crowded stern area due to a traveler that was added in the past, so I  added long tracks alongside the jib tracks. With the Bimini all the way forward I can open it all the way, but have to crawl out to go forward. All the way back on the tracks and I have to fold up the rear half to clear the mainsheet and traveler, but I can easily go forward..and the whole thing can be slide forward and folded on the cabin top.

I think  my final cut down size was  60 long, 78 wide, 40 high.
