Title: Just picked up a 19!
Post by: rsbensonxj on May 03, 2017, 10:34:46 PM
Just picked up a new to me Compac 19. It is in great condition other than a few cosmetic blemishes and in need of new bottom paint. Can't wait to get her on the water!

Congratulations on the new 19. They are really nice little boats and well worth every penny you'll spend on her.  I love mine and have had it for about 7 years with no plans to get rid of her.

Speaking of pennies, if you've been browsing this site long enough you'll know Bob23 will be along soon to collect his new member fees.
Don't say anything, but if you just butter him up with a joke and 6 pack of PBR you'll literally save thousands.

Personally I would wave it entirely since I have a 19 too and love that you posted a picture right out of the gate. But I'm afraid you may have your work cut out for you with Bob...  j/k

Mr. Benson, or so I presume that is what your name is. Welcome and congrats! Although I've never owned a 19, I've had occasion to sail about 1 or 2 at times. Please keep us posted about your adventures both in toying with your boat and sailing her. Where will you sail in Wyoming?
Tis true I am the keeper of the CPYOA initiation fees. And taking Tim's lead, I am choosing to completely waive the $5000 initiation fee. One reason is you may be the first Wyomian we have. Is that what you call folks from Wyoming?
  Anyway, welcome!
Bob23 and "Koinonia", the 1985 23/2 that claims to own me. From southern NJ.

Thanks for the welcome. I believe we are Wyomingites! There are not many of us out here and even fewer that sail. There are 3 reservoirs in the area, Alcova, Pathfinder, and Glendo. Mostly I will have it at Alcova because they keep the water level up all summer. The rest get drawn down for irrigation.

I am excited to finally have a com-pac. I have loved the design since I first started sailing.

WELCOME and pay NO attention to the new jerseyian.

he doesn't know much about anything, and even less about quality beer, (pbr, really?) and his post shows this.

he states "and taking tim's lead"  when clearly it was mike (aka salty19) that suggested the initiation fee be waved!

granted at HIS age having to remember what he read 10 seconds ago is a difficult task, (no doubt caused by years of drinking bilge water) it's safe to say that bob23's posts should be limited to a smiley face now and then.

however you'll find that this board is an equal opportunity site and welcomes ALL compac sailors. (and 1 catalina guy that doesn't warrant mention)

i have more to say, but it's time for my meds and a nap.

c.c.

Good'ol Tim here,

I say, if you can float her in a Yellowstone hot spring, you won't need a cabin heater in the winter!

bob23 (note the lower case) is okay. Just greedy.  Welcome fellow 19ner!  So, how'd you manage to get the only 19 in WY?

I snagged mine at a church sale for $1200 clams 11 years ago this June. Wonderful boat.

FYI, 3 of the 5 Fleet Admirals on this site are 19ners as well!  The rest just wish they were!

Welcome B. and you are a fortunate individual.  Bob 23 waived the initiation fee in such a casual manner.  I, on the other hand, cannot cross the Mason Dixon line because, I have never paid my fee.  Difficult because I have a grandchild within a hundred miles of Bob's "family".

I did my time (and enjoyed it) in Casper, WY.  I was with the loud and brash set, the oilpatch trash crowd.  Unlike those coal folks who keep a low profile.

Just got lucky getting the 19. There was a 16 in Denver and a 23 in Fort Collins that I was also considering and then the 19 popped up in Cheyenne.

I have lived in Casper for 3 years so far and we enjoy it. That winter wind can be a little much sometimes. Let just say I am ready for spring/summer and sailing season. The coal and oil guys are both hurting right now.

Welcome aboard!  Since you mention Alcova Lake, I've gotta say that Casper Boat Club (http://www.casperboatclub.com/) there sure seems to have a lot of interesting activities...yoga, painting, along with the usual brunches and barbecues.  No wonder there's a waiting list.

Fun Fact: I went to kindergarten in Casper.

Wow, another Com-pac sailor within a 300 mile radius....we're rare out here in the West. I sail on Lake Granby about 4 hours South of you.

The outlaws (in-laws) are all from Wyoming so Frontier Days is an annual tradition.

Congrats and enjoy the 19!

I am a member there at the Casper Boat Club. Need to have a place to store it as my HOA is a stickler about things parked in the drive way. I am waiting for the letter as I type this because it has been out there for 2 days now!

I grew up in Loveland and have been to Lake Granby many times. It is a beautiful area.

LOL, HOA in Casper? I guess it has been a while.  When I was working there (Late 70's) the streets one block off the main drag were not even paved.

Just a month back from the annual trip to Winter Park.  Really like that area.  This year, though, we had an unpleasant incident.  A women in our group had to be air lifted to Denver.  Teenage boy skiing out of control hit her from the rear.  She ended up having surgery for a subdural hematoma.  Fine now but we were concerned.

Glad to hear you made the annual WP trip! We'll have to connect for a beer at some point. Sorry to hear about your friend. Seems like more incidents like that every year. Unfortunately ski etiquette is becoming a thing of the past as the mountain gets more crowded.

It would be great! Maybe I can catch you finishing a shift on the mountain.  Will PM in advance next year.

Yes, Barb got hit on a green run, March Hare, and she is the poster child for no surprises for anyone coming up on her from behind.  Her turn cycle looks like an oscilloscope sine wave, so no guessing.  Kid was just completely out of control.  I've never worn a helmet before, but I'm now in the market for one.

Welcome to the CP-19 club!  Don't pay any attention to Bob23.  He can't help himself!

Wayne (cheap)  ....   also CP-19 owner!!

Did you get your bottom wet yet?

Unfortunately only once so far. This summer has been too crazy. Home renovations, new baby, and life with young kids is just nuts.

I also dropped my motor off to get worked on and haven't gotten it back yet. Definitely put a damper on the summer sailing. Though Friday I can get her out, borrowing a friend's motor for the day! Actually he bought a new one specifically to go sailing because I have not been able to take him! Good to have great friends!

As they say, best is for friend to own boat...keep us posted on first sail, always an adventure!
Best of luck

Great day on the lake. Winds were light but it was better than being at work! Much faster prepping, launching, and retrieving this time around. I love how stable she is compared to my past day sailors.
