Title: time for new standing rigging; who has best price...Hutchins ?
Post by: hockeyfool on April 10, 2017, 06:35:43 PM
Hey 23'ers, think its time to ask for opinions on best price to buy replacement standing rigging; I have what most likely 15-30 year old shrouds that previous owner did not give me date/receipts IF he did replace them and I have a few kinks in at least 4 .
How do we know when its best to replace and where is cheapest place to buy , is Hutchins Compac parts a good deal ?

You could always go with Dyneema Dux through Colligo Marine.  I redid my lifelines using their materials two years ago.  If I ever redo my rig I would go this route for all the rigging other than my forestay, (I use hanks on my jib and genoa).

Personally I don't mind paying a bit more if that happens to be the case to provide my business to a boat builder like Hutchins - particularly since they provide such great service to their owner/customers which can be a hard thing to find these days (in my humble experience).

While you are at it you may want to do the chainplates also.  At least the port and starboard chainplates that hold the shrouds.

I would love to have a slightly beefier version of the chainplates fabricated and then installed.

I've bought a number of items from Hutchins, most recently the parts to run my main halyard to the cockpit. Their prices are reasonable and you're supporting an excellent resource for information about your boat. How often can you call a manufacturer and speak directly to the owner(s)?

I had good luck on a complete replacement for my old Slipper 17 and my Precision 21 by going through West Marine Rigging. Bring in the old, ship it, and receive the new ones made to match. This has been awhile back, but I was very happy with the service and cost. I would do that again when it comes time for new rigging for my CP 23.

Whatever, dude. It's West Marine Rigging, and they sub it out. Great service.
